A heartfelt post today. Here we are again, and it’s Christmas Eve! I hope you’ve got everything sorted, and you’re ready for the big day tomorrow? I’ve just got back from a whirlwind tour of Tring and the surrounding villages, ticking off the last few remaining tasks on my xmas ‘To Do’ list…. we’ve got the veg from the local farm shop, we’ve been to the graveyards in both Chesham and Tring to lay wreaths and say “Happy Christmas” to our departed and much missed loved ones, we’ve dropped off a couple of last minute cards, we fought the crowds in Tescos for provisions for the next few days, and I finally got my Mum’s present – gift vouchers from the local garden center. Phew! But it’s all done.
As I mentioned the other day, I’m planning to be at Kempton on Boxing Day for the King George meeting. The weather is still snowy and icy, the roads are still no fun to be driving on, and I think trying to negotiate the Kempton race card could be just as hazardous. So even if we still venture out on Saturday I think we can expect a few results that will not be ‘to the formbook’. So I’ll probably be keeping my ‘proper’ stake money safe, and betting to minimum stakes, and with the emphasis purely on fun rather than big profits.
Kauto Star is reportedly very well, and it will be a big shock to see him beaten in the feature race. But he’s currently 4/7 so no real betting prospect. Imperial Commander who ran him close in the Betfair Chase is only 6/1 and not much of an each way bet either. When push comes to shove, I will be having a couple of quid each way on the recent Peterborough Chase winner Deep Purple. And I mean just a couple of quid… just for fun. Kempton is a flat, right handed track, similar to Huntingdon, so at 14/1 to finish in a place this could provide a decent return, at least enough to buy another round of hot chocolates!
In the previous race, the Christmas Hurdle, I’m going to have another very small bet each way on Cape Tribulation. I shall say no more than in my opinion he is on a par with both Go Native and Starluck. 28/1 (he was 33/1 yesterday) is too big a price for a horse with realistic claims on the runner-up spot.
Well, Dear Reader, it only remains for me to wish you and those closest to you a very special Christmas. I’m going to take a little break from blogging for a few days, and you most likely won’t hear from me again until the middle of next week. My warmest, most festive Best Wishes.
