Success leaves clues

I get my hunger for winning from my Dad. He was always drumming in to me and my brother all the clichés about never giving up, going the extra mile, doing today what others don’t so you can achieve what others won’t, and so on….

They may well have been clichés he was talking, but my father spoke them with a passion, and he motivated me and my brother to do well.

One of my sporting heroes - Seb Coe

But then it’s not surprising that my brother went on to play football for Buckinghamshire and had schoolboy trials with both Watford and Arsenal, whilst I was the Buckinghamshire cross-country running champion for several consecutive years, and reached the final of the English Schools 1,500 metres on the athletics track when I was fifteen.

My nephew, my brother’s son, has been picked to play cricket for the county at the age of twelve, and has won a National hockey competition with his school team. I hope some of my winning attitude rubs off on my three young boys too.

I don’t say any of this to brag, but rather to impress upon you that my Dad did well to teach us how to achieve.

He would always say “Success leaves clues….” and I firmly believe in that philosophy (so much so, that I used it as the working title for one of my betting guides).

By the way, I’ve been talking about my father in the past tense but my Dad is still very much with us. In fact we still go out for a cycle ride at least once every month, albeit at quite a sedate pace.

You may remember what I said in one of the very first issues of “SkyBlueKangaroo” – I think it was Issue #3 – try wherever possible to model yourself on other successful people. Don’t just listen to what they say, but watch what they do, and copy what they do.

Successful people leave clues every day on how to be successful. [/box]

My aim when writing “SkyBlueKangaroo” is to highlight common areas where some people fail, and show you how some successful people get, well…. successful.

My opinions are borne out of long-standing personal experience and many years discussing with winning and losing punters alike.

Here’s one thing I can tell you about professional punters… I have never spoken to any punter taking his or her punting even halfway serious, who did not have a separate account for their betting activities. Which leads me into the next series of articles I’m going to be posting here, and that’s to discuss money management.

But first, I’m off on holiday with the family for a couple of weeks. We’re getting down to the villa in Andalucia, and I’m hoping to get out and catch a stage of La Vuelta (that’s the cycling Tour of Spain) if the present Mrs Whelan let’s me off for a day.

I’ll catch everybody when I get back.

Hey Paul in regards to that lay system for last race favourites
Since 24/10/11 on UK races only there has been 22 Qualifiers and
8 losers and if that kept happening you would soon go broke!
Sorry Paul but this idea lacks substance. Needs more rules to
    eliminate most of those losers.

    Kind regards Bari

Hi Bari, Welcome to the blog and thanks for the feedback. But can you give me a bit more detail, because I’m not clear which system you’re referring to? Cheers, Paul
